WAY LESS EFFORT is proud to present @faruhdey's first album. Purely sample driven instrumental hip-hop, it plays like a true old school beat tape, and honors the big city sounds of one of the great soul artists of our time: Willie Hutch.

"The album started with a visit down to the local radio station back home in Hampton, VA. The local DJ, Kevin "Moose" Anderson does a show called "Lessons in Jazz" and has an insane record collection. I was just starting to get into Willie Hutch and he gave me some records and I started chopping to the tracks and making beats. It started off as a xmas project last year with rough beats, but I decided that with some work I could get an album out of it... and that's what I did. Every song is sampled from Willie Hutch and the album is more of an ode to him than anything else. He is one of the most under-appreciated artists of the 70s -- writing, producing, arranging, and singing himself. His body of work is more than I can begin to describe here, but I encourage anyone who listens to this album to listen to his work too.

This album was a chance to explore a lot of different sampling techniques and really begin the process of developing my own style. While I draw inspiration from 9th wonder, Dilla, black milk -- I realize that I'm not them. They've carved out their own lane with regard to sampled beats, especially soul beats. I'm just trying to do my part to keep the soul alive. The first song for this album was made in 2012 and the last one was made in 2014 ... so it's been a long journey to get to this point, but I'm happy to finally let people hear what I've been sitting on for so long. There are two songs of note... Caitlin's Interlude -- a song dedicated to a friend who passed in the summer of 2012... someone who really pushed me to pursue artistic pursuits and was a much more amazing person that I ever could be. The other is Overture, made for my girlfriend Amelia -- who continues to encourage me when I feel like I shouldn't keep going and has been a constant critic for my music since we met."
